The country boasts very old traditions as far as planting golf courses are concerned. The Royal Golf of Marrakech, for examples, was inaugurated in 1933 at the foothills of the majestic High Atlas Mountains. The course is a veritable garden of Eden that has been attracting players from all over the world for more than 80 years. In addition to this course, the Royal Country Club of Tangier is the first golf club in the Mediterranean basin and one of the oldest golf courses in Africa. This golf course was modified by well known British golf architects Cotton and Pennick and renovated in 2001 by Peter Harradine.
Morocco nowadays is still faithful to this golfing tradtion. The country inaugurated dozens of new golf courses all over the country. Almost in every large city in Morocco, you will find a golf course or more with lush fairways under beautiful skylines. The golf courses in Morocco are all set in amazingly beautiful surroundings; some of the course are set in areas ovelooking the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas Mountains, the Atlantic Ocean or the Mediteranian. Depending on these exceptional views, it is very difficult to decide which golf course to play in Morocco.
The golf courses in Morocco are designed by well-known golfers with respect to international norms. Mazagan Golf course in El Jadida, for example, has been designed by Gary Player, the South African golfer who is considered one of the greatest players the game has ever seen. Mazagan Golf course is run by Troon Golf, a company with a worldwide reputation, ensuring a personal welcome and personalized service. In addition to this course, the American architect Robert Trent Jones Sr. created PalmGolf Marrakech-Palmeraie, for which he presented his expertise for the creation of a true championship course. The 27 hole golf course both noteworthy and accessible ensures the more experienced players a challenging and exciting test, while beginners can very easily take their first steps in the discipline.
